Denis O'Regan

Biografia

Denis O'Regan witnessed The Beatles at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1964 - his first ever concert. He was there for David Bowie's penultimate concert as Ziggy Stardust in 1973, and returned as Bowie's tour photographer on the 1983 Serious Moonlight world tour. Denis travelled the world with David again in 1987 on the innovative Glass Spider tour.

His imagery spans Punk, New Romanticism, Grunge and so much more: flying alongside Queen's helicopter arriving over a crowd of 125,000 in 1986 for Freddie Mercury's last performance; capturing David Bowie beside the Berlin Wall and travelling with Pink Floyd on Division Bell, their final tour. His eight weeks on the road with the Rolling Stones in 1982 documented the band's only European tour across a period of 14 years.

Denis documented David Bowie more than any photographer. His Ricochet : David Bowie 1983 boxed set features in the V&A permanent collection. When David passed away in 2016, Mick Jagger and Madonna both tweeted his photographs. As official photographer for the global event he produced the Live Aid book with Bob Geldof, and has been engaged by Glastonbury, Download, Coachella and the MTV European Music

Awards.

Commissioned by Paul McCartney for his 1999 appearance at The Cavern, Denis O'Regan's digital images graced the cover of every UK national newspaper the following morning. In 2022 he was appointed the first ever Artist in Residence at the Royal Albert Hall and continues to publish limited edition books and fine art prints. In 2025 ACC Art Books released David Bowie by Denis O'Regan.
